You must be wondering by now, what I am trying to write about shirts over here in an Education Blog……Well you must be most natural. But there is a small story behind it. Very small but quite significant for all of us.
KridhaTutor has got a dedicated lineup of over-the-phone consultants who constantly help and guide parents and students to access the best available tutors for their educational help. And I happen to sometimes sit and listen to some of their conversations. Many conversations felt interesting and so I can remember them even days or more later. One such day I heard one such conversation and it was
“Yes Ma’am, We can get a shirt at 500 or also at 5000 from the market but the difference is in the quality……”.
Education is much more a sophisticated and premium affair of our life, perhaps much more than a shirt or any piece of garment. And perhaps the quality matters more over there than most of our other affairs in life (except some others like the medical affairs). Afterall we will throw away the shirt after a few years if that is among the best of qualities or maybe just within a few days if it happens to be among the worst of qualities. But what about the qualifications and education received by you or your child? How many years can it take to throw those away in case they are not of quality?
Though I personally prefer a reasonable economy in education, still there may sometimes be another perspective. Usually teachers and especially home tutors are not too affluent to make their services too affordable as they also need to survive the harsh economy of this market.
We at KridhaTutor are more specifically dealing with home tutors and thus understand their points and perspectives even better. Many of the home tutors are either students or job aspirants. Many others are doing it as their profession. And in almost all the cases they delegate their service at quite a very constrained economic condition.
The time is constant for all. It is just 24 hours every day and not more for anybody. And in that 24 hours one can work eight or perhaps ten hours for earning if considered as full timers. Home tutors also need to earn their need in such a fixed time frame. Sometimes they are themselves senior students or in other engagements, which can even more constrict the available time frame.
“If the monetization of human resource is not at the appropriate level then that can ultimately have its toll in quality…”
Home tuition is usually a time consuming job, where a single tutor teaches a single student for the stipulated time period. Over that adds the time to commute to and fro the home tuition location. And that together adds to engagement of a significant amount of human resource value. If the monetization of that amount of human resource is not at the appropriate level then that can ultimately have its toll in the quality factors.
Home tuition is a high quality job. Students and parents depend a lot on home tuition for academic performances and career construction. For that there has to be obvious high quality involvement from both the student end and the home tutor end. And KridhaTutor takes care that the home tutors they provide can successfully meet the quality aspects.
Thus it seems not to be an intelligent choice to compromise the monetization aspects of a home tutor as the resulting quality compromise can become an adverse issue to the students academic development and career construction. And certainly no parent would like to compromise their students’ education and career.
“Home tuition is a high quality job…”
How the Home Tutor Economics Works
This is a question perhaps many conscious parents can be thinking or interested in. There are quite a many variables and aspects that play at the background to constitute the home tutor economy framework. I am trying to discuss a few most common ones and others are left for more specific cases.
The most significant variables are the subjects and class of students. And with that the tutor experience also matters quite a lot. Subjects like Science and Maths undoubtedly belong to higher cost economics. And higher the class, higher the costs.
Other variables like the number of tuition sessions per week or per month and duration of each session directly determines the costing overheads.
Other variables can be like the city location of the home tuition. Every city in India does not have equal economics. Some are too costly cities whereas others are less. Rural sectors are usually lower than urban sectors. So the home tutor rates are bound to vary depending on the city and location of the student and the tutor.
The Price Versus Quality
This is a famous or perhaps famously notorious relation which is almost equally applicable in all professional areas of work. In the same way it applies to the domain of home tuition also. And we can see that the quality of home tuition most often and most simultaneously varies with the associated price factor. And that is in direct proportions.
“Price and quality are usually in direct proportions!”
It is not that the tutors always deliberately deliver high or less quality depending on the price factors. But in many cases that becomes a hurdle or compulsion at the end of the tutor as well.
As we can assume most obviously that the tutors are likely to have personal expenses, family expenses and other sorts of usual expenses that we all are usually having. They are not any different in that respect.
Now if a home tutor needs to teach more and more students in order to meet up his expenses then naturally that can have its toll on his energy and time. If a home tutor decides to teach students at too economic a cost then he has to take more students than his energy and time capacity. The tutorial or coaching center teacher have some obvious advantages in this regard as they teach to group students and hence they can still provide high quality tuition at economic cost.
But for home tutors that becomes very hard to perform. If a home tutor teaches less number of students and according to his or her time and energy capacity and still can meet up his or her expenses then that can raise the quality of tuition to a significant level.
So for conscious parents and students, it is not usually advisable to search for home tutors at too economic costs. Reasonable rates are what can create a win-win situation for both ends. And that will serve the best purpose of education I suppose.
