I could have easily written it as why should you not become a teacher. Indeed there can be a lot of reasons due to which anyone can consider not to become a teacher. The most important reason can be a shortfall of teaching abilities and another equally important reason can be inadequate earning of the most able teachers. Still I chose to write it this way because despite everything there are some compelling reasons as well for you to become a teacher.
Teaching is one of the most underrated professions and I have no idea about why it has to be like that. After all, teachers are the ones who make us and if they are not happy and content then how can we expect that they can make the best of us?
Though underrated, teachers usually deliver very high quality service to the society and nation as well as the whole of mankind and they are the architects of the society and human civilization by producing the finest of professionals. Thus directly and indirectly they contribute a lot to our life and society. But seldom we properly and adequately recognize their contributions.
So you see, being a teacher is not supposed to be an easy task either. And in real life we do find many such cases where teachers are really not up to the mark they should have been. Even that does not nullify their roles and contributions, though obviously can depreciate it considerably. Even depreciated, their contributions are still accountable and respectable enough to not to be underrated anyhow.
And this is exactly one of the reasons for you being or trying to be a teacher. Even if you are not very fond of fame or being proud or carrying vanity, still social respect is something which is very useful and essential to live in this world with self-respect and honor.
And with that, you can perform your social responsibility much better being a teacher than any other form. Perhaps only doctors are equivalently contributing to social responsibilities as teachers and even then sometimes some great teacher or mentor or preacher can contribute even much more than doctors or anyone.
So being a teacher your contribution to social responsibility becomes much higher and better and for that also in most cases you get paid for that. So earning and serving society goes hand-in-hand. Such is the level of social contribution of a teacher and we should encourage that for getting more and more good teachers in our society.
Why Do We Need More Teachers?
The question almost goes in the same line as why do we need more doctors? So what will be your answer to this question?
Our population is ever increasing. So do the variety and intensity of diseases. I can share an experience of my own. Sometime before I had a kind of viral fever and there were one or two good doctors in our locality. We needed to register our name at least 12 hours before and then also we used to get our name at least after 20 or more patients. And when I went at a pre-calculated approximate time of doctor’s consultation in the evening , I also had to wait at least for an hour to get my chance.
The same is almost happening with teachers also. In schools or colleges the ratio of student isto teacher is usually not very optimum and day by day it is deteriorating. Before we used to get a class of not more than 25 or 30 students and now we get classes filled with 50 or even more students.
The condition is even more critical in cases of home tution. Students need personalized attention for their academic development beside their regular school classes. For that they and their parents seek home tution. But due to lack of enough good home tutors often parents and students chose to go for tutorial houses or coachings.
Tutorial homes or coachings are not bad choices but there also we usually find more students in a class than there should be. Thus the purpose of personalized educational help gets diluted and the highest sufferers due to this are the students. Their academic development and career buildup gets tough and troubled.
There are more reasons for why we would need more teachers. As students are increasing, and also technology as well as our order of living and earning are changing, we are finding new subjects of studies and career development. For example, before the invention of the modern camera there was no subject of study and career development named photography. Before the invention of computers there were no courses related to computers and their applications. Before the advent of mobile computing devices and fast internet for all, there was not much social media and hence there was no social media marketing and digital marketing.
So you may be having such a skill or education either as your full time profession or hobby and hence you have got something very important and valuable to share with your students. Either you can become a teacher of the mainstream study curriculum or you can teach some vocational or recreational subject.
There are many disciplines now which people tend to learn just for the purpose of recreation or rejuvenation. Like someone may like to learn a game, or play a musical instrument or some kind of handicraft, not exactly for vocational purpose but for just recreational purpose. Thus you may choose to teach and contribute in either way.
These are just a few examples to clarify my point. As the days pass more changes in technology and our life will happen which will give rise to more new vocational as well as non-vocational subjects or disciplines. As people will want to learn such disciplines either for earning or just for recreation, more relevant teachers would find students and earnings as well. Thus in all different ways, the market of teaching and mentoring seems to be ever increasing and prospering. So why should you play a part in it?
Later in some other articles I have plans to discuss some of the vocational as well as non-vocational disciplines and how they can benefit the students and the teachers. This will help to find alternative careers and earnings for both the students and teachers. Also in many cases such disciplines can become a good hobby or creative recreation which can considerably contribute to the betterment of mental health of all. Please look forward to those articles as they will arrive here soon.
Teacher as Full Time or Part Time ?
This answer mostly depends on whether you already have a full time profession or job or not. If you already have one then most probably you will take the option of part time. You may even ask why at all you will take it part time as you already have a good job or profession with quite handsome earnings?
The partial answer of this question I already gave in the above sections. From social contribution to the growing population of students, reasons are already more than enough. But yet they are not exhausted. Have you ever wondered what benefits it can bring to you ?
First and most evident benefit is some extra income. Some extra does not necessarily mean too little but often it can be too high. And in case you don’t have any other full time job or profession then your earnings by teaching can easily become like any full time profession. It can provide you enough to run your family, make assets and secure your life and future.
But if you already have a profession or job from which you already earn more than enough then you may ask why at all you should teach for further earnings ?
It is true that in that case you may not need any further earnings or you may not want to use a fragment of your time for teaching. But teaching does not only make some earnings for you but also has many important benefits for you. Your teaching is not only academically beneficial for your students but also beneficial for you in the same way. You always remain updated and fresh in questions of information and knowledge, can become more smart and intelligent, and also there are multiple health issues where you will get very positive benefits. You can even avert your brain aging process and with that overall aging and protect yourself from brain degenerative diseases like Alzeheimers, etc.
Thus in more than one way chances are there that you can protect yourself and save your wealth being spent for medical bills or at least minimize it. And that also at the cost of your extra earnings. I don’t think this is going to be any bad deal.
In some forthcoming title, I will discuss the health benefits of teaching in some detail. Keep visiting our blogs and stay connected to know more of what is happening here. Now if you are almost convinced to start teaching you may ask the next question. How can you become a teacher ? My next article will be dedicated to answering this question. I am not sure how decisively I can answer your questions, but this is for sure that I will try upto my capacity. And I hope that my articles will help you to find at least some clue to the answer.
